Movie Reviews: Poster Boys, Daddy, It

🎥 Poster Boys

Shreyas Talpade makes his directorial debut🎬 with the remake of a Marathi film that he produced and does manage to entertain with. 3⃣ guys (Bobby, Sunny & Shreyas) are made laughing stocks of the village🤣 when their photographs are used for a government sponsored vasectomy campaign without their permission. So the trio decides to challenge the government and prove their 'masculinity'. The witty writing keeps the audiences chuckling and forget how loud the lead actors are. The subtle jokes on 🇮🇳's perennial population's problems in between the general wackiness, is a nice touch.

They couldn't have timed the release of the film better too - a week after the release of 'Subh Mangal Savdhan'🍤.

🎥 Daddy

The film shines in parts✨ but lacks as a whole. Arun Gawli (Arjun Rampal) is tempted by fate to choose the path to gangsterdom. But his road to redemption in a Robin Hood-like avatar lands him the moniker of 'Daddy.'💙 The film's look-and-feel couldn't have been any closer to an accurate depiction of the 70s👍. Every frame is a treat to watch and sight to behold.

Rampal puts in a solid performance but not the great one that the story of Gawli demands. Whereas, his lady love Aishwarya Rajesh and the cop-on-his-case Nishikant Kamatbring put in commendable performances. Farhan Akhtar though, whose character mirrors Dawood Ibrahim, is a letdown👎🏽 in a part he could have owned.

This is a great real life story, with all the elements to make it a hit, but the sketchy writing and screenplay let it down. And the interesting nonlinear narration feels unimpressive.

🎬Director: Ashim Ahluwalia

🎥 It

When a group of 7⃣ gawky kids comes together to solve the mystery of the disappearing kids of their sleepy town, it marks the slow demise of childhood innocence and the rebirth of the town's sinister something, It - or as it calls itself, Pennywise.

The film strikes the perfect balance between a sensible drama👍🏽 that explores the origin of the monster🤡 while being packed with the jump scares that are haunting and keep coming at just the right interval👏🏼.

This is a winning story and one of the best adaptations of a Stephen King novel📖. Be sure not to miss it. And be cautious of drains and sewers!🚰
