University of Ilorin Selected to Host local edition of Hult Prize as students answer the United Nations Challenge and go head-to-head for US$1M

Hult Prize team recently announced that University of Ilorin has been selected to host a local edition of the Hult Prize, the world’s largest student competition for the creation of new social businesses. The annual Hult Prize awards one million dollars in start-up funding to the team of students that develops the most radical and breakthrough idea to solve one of our world’s toughest social challenges.

In partnership with the United Nations, the Hult Prize is hosting college and university events around the world in search of the next game-changing start-up.  Bello Lukman will be leading the Hult Prize at University of ilorin On Campus Program, and is confident that his/her peers on campus have as good as chance as anyone to go all the way and with this year’s Hult Prize.

The winner of the intra-campus event will automatically advance to compete in one of fifteen regional finals happening around the world. One winning team from each host city will then move onto a summer business incubator, where participants will receive mentorship, advisory and strategic planning as they create prototypes and set-up to launch their new social business.  A final round of competition will be hosted in September 2019, where the winning team to be awarded the $1,000,000 prize.

TYPES OF BREAST CANCER

Breast cancers comes in different forms and types. Knowing the type of breast cancer you've will let medical practitioners know what steps to take to address it. Here are commonly known types of BC.

⏺ In situ cancers

➡ Ductal carcinoma in situ(DCIS) also called intraductal carcinoma and Stage 0 breast cancer. DCIS is a non-invasive or pre-invasive breast cancer. This means the cells that line the ducts have changed to cancer cells but they have not spread through the walls of the ducts into the nearby breast tissue.

Because DCIS hasn’t spread into the breast tissue around it, it can’t spread (metastasize) beyond the breast to other parts of the body.

➡ Lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS) may also be called lobular neoplasia. In this breast change, cells that look like cancer cells are growing in the milk-producing glands of the breast (called the lobules), but they don’t grow through the wall of the lobules.

LCIS is not considered to be cancer, and it typically does not spread beyond the lobule (become invasive breast cancer) if it isn’t treated. But having LCIS does increase your risk of developing an invasive breast cancer in either breast later on, so close follow-up is important.

⏺ Invasive (infiltrating) breast cancer

➡ Invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) is the most common type of breast cancer. About 8 of 10 invasive breast cancers are invasive (or infiltrating) ductal carcinomas (IDC).

IDC starts in the cells that line a milk duct in the breast, breaks through the wall of the duct, and grows into the nearby breast tissues. At this point, it may be able to spread (metastasize) to other parts of the body through the lymph system and bloodstream.

➡ Invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) starts in the milk-producing glands (lobules). Like IDC, it can spread (metastasize) to other parts of the body. About 1  invasive breast cancer in 10  is an ILC. Invasive lobular carcinoma may be harder to detect on physical exam as well as imaging, like mammograms, than invasive ductal carcinoma. And compared to other kinds of invasive carcinoma, about 1 in 5 women with ILC might have cancer in both breasts

Breast cancer; The silent killer

It is no news that one of the enemies of life and good health is cancer, and not even breasts are spared from this bad sprout in our systems. Breast cancer has become a source of serious concern as it continues to deal mortal blow on women in our society. We'll be discussing Breast Cancer over the next three days, and we hope that you're able to keep up till the end.

What is Breast Cancer?

Breast cancer is the formation of tumours and lumps in the breasts, secondary to excessive proliferation of cells in the breasts. It leads to morphological changes in the breasts and could spread to other parts of the body through metastasis, ultimately leading to death.

Factors responsible for Breast Cancer

=>An history of breast cancer in the family.
=> Genetic mutation
=> Excessive estrogen secretion
=> Obesity. Amongst others.

Can it be prevented?

Yes! In fact, it can be noticed early enough and taken care of before metastasis occur. By a frequent employment of some of these examination methods, one could easily prevent thw growth of Breast Cancer:

1. Palpation for the presence of lumps.
2. Observation of change in structure of the normal breast such as dimpling.

It is therefore adviced that young ladies and grown women check up on themselves regularly,  to prevent breast cancer, and for early diagnosis in other cases.

Stop breast cancer, before it stops you.

Association of Mass Communication Students (AMCOS), University of Ilorin launches her logo on the 12th of September, 2018.

The new logo is characterized with a MICROPHONE replacing the "O" in AMCOS. "It is a message that everything done in the department- Print, Broadcast, Public Relations and Advertising is directed to COMMUNICATION. Hence, with a logo that speak communication and the association Motto-Moving the World; AMCOS has a new voice- We are communicating to MOVE THE WORLD" Mr Opeyemi, AMCOS President said during the presentation in the house.

According to the President of the Association, Mr. Adesina Opeyemi,  "Branding deals with the overall message of a particular product, hence, we are trying to com-modify AMCOS PRODUCTIONS". He also made mention of AMCOS CREATIVITIES, a new online platform where we infuse the three segment of mass communication to build students potentials with real media experiences, which they can add to their CV while graduating."

The Logo was presented to the House on 11th September, 2018, which consist of Three Honorables- Hon. Faruq, Hon. Alice, Hon. Damilola, out of Four Honorables, excluding Hon. Samuel. The three honorables present gave their YES to the motion to change the association logo. Five of the association central executives were also present in the house - Vice President, Imisi Adeoye; General Secretary, Sulyman Onide, PRO, Jegede Bukola, Treasurer, and Hameedat Raji.

MMGIVIT CYVC UNILORIN MENTORSHIP AND SKILLS ACQUISITION PROGRAM FOR STUDENTS AT ILE APA COMMUNITY SECONDARY SCHOOL, ILORIN, KWARA STATE.




Sustainable education is the bedrock of any country's development.

There is a need for government to invest more in our education sector, strategically drafting curricula that will not only help groom student for the labor market but rather prepare them to survive in creative industries....

So far in Nigeria, we can't underestimate the contribution of NGOs in facilitating the growth of education, such is the appreciated effort of MMGIVIT CYVC UNILORIN chapter after their influential visit to Ile Apa community Secondary School in Kwara state. Seeing a dire and urgent need to empower and mentor the students with requisite skills to sustain themselves, considering how the school has been abandoned by those charged to see to its affairs and the total well-being of the students.

The charity group organized an entrepreneurship and mentorship session for the students which was led by Adebiyi Habib Taiwo (Fellow, YALI West Africa), President MMGIVIT CYVC Unilorin.

Mentoring the students will go a long way in helping the children discover their talents and indeed unleash their fullest potentials. The students were taken through a well facilitated practical training session on Barbing, Baking,
Desktop Publishing and soap making.



MMGIVIT is a charity organization that has introduced a new dimension to empowerment in Ilorin Kwara state by redistributing wealth through charity for the upliftment of the
less privileged. The new approach is being championed by a Professor of Business law Prof Muhammed Akanbi(SAN).

Well meaning Nigerians are encouraged to be kind enough to help the less privileged as doing this will be of immense benefits to youths and the progress encountered in our country's journey towards eradication of poverty and
provision of a good living conditions.

Mr. Adebiyi Habib, (President MMGIVIT CYVC Unilorin) is optimistic of the fact that, this will make more of our youth prosperous and more secured. It will offer a positive path for those who are willing to make something of themselves and can empower those that have previously been locked out of existing social order.



It will also give them a chance to contribute and lead which can eventually create a culture where innovation and creativity are valued.

MMGIVIT CYVC 2017/2018

With the sole aim of achieving excellence and alleviating poverty in Nigeria, Yattiyr scholarship initiative, a non-governmental organization is going to different schools to award scholarships to students that have a bright vision about their future but are restricted due to the financial limitations faced by the parents of those students which restrict them from achieving their academic dreams.

The Yattiyr scholarship initiative consists of a corp member and students from different departments in the University of Ilorin. They visited two different government owned schools in Ilorin; community grammar school, oke-ose and River Basin college on July 12, 2018.

On April 27, 2018, the members of the organization visited the community grammar school in oke-ose and presented questionnaires to the senior secondary school one and two students that had questions about their goals after school, their future ambition and the conditions that are restricting them from achieving their set goals. The various answers submitted were thoroughly analysed and five students, two girls and three boys were carefully selected and awarded scholarships on Thursday. The scholarship covers their school fees for the three terms in the next school session. The beneficiaries were surprised that they were called out for the scholarships and they were grateful to Yattiyr scholarship initiative with gleaming smiles on their faces. One of the beneficiaries was not present in the hall when he was called because he was sent home for his school fees, the foundation promised to pay his school fees so he can stay in school.

Yattiyr scholarship initiative also organized a reading club for the students in a bid to promote their reading habits and to foster academic interactions among the school students. The executive director of grouped and each group was led by an elected group leader. Yattiyr scholarship initiative, Fatoye John, a medical student, told them that the meaning of “Yattiyr” in Hebrew means excellence, he motivated them to always strive for excellence, ready to learn and not to give up on their dreams. The vice principal also encouraged the students to be serious with their academics so as to get more scholarships like this.

Also, on June 12, 2018, in River Basin College, the foundation held an academic seminar for the senor secondary school one and two students which focused on achieving life goals. The seminar got the students attention and they were bold in discussing their future ambition with the members of Yattiyr scholarship initiative.
On Thursday, Yattiyr scholarship initiative presented fifty different textbooks to the school. The books cut across the various academic disciplines at the secondary school level, there were inspirational books, motivational books and literature books. 

They appealed to the school that the students should be given a free access to use the books. The vice principal promised that the books will be kept in the library so the students can access to the books. Mr. Fatoye encouraged the students to always make use of the library to read different books, he also told them that the best friend of an active mind is the pen. An active mind seeks knowledge and writes whatever he learns.  One of the teachers appreciated the members of the organization for their kind gesture. The vice principal also appreciated the members and persuaded the students to be ready to learn every day, make use of the library and appreciate the knowledge gotten from different fields of life. A reading club was created and the students that were interested in joining the club. The students were grouped and members of the Yattiyr scholarship initiative were assigned to different groups to oversee the development in the student’s reading habit.

YSI, the acronym for Yattiyr scholarship initiative is a team for young minds taking hold of leadership in her little sphere of influence to proffer hope and access to quality education for promising indigents via advocacy, mentorship and scholarships. YSI has a vision to expand their horizons and reach out to many students that are interested in learning and also to achieve excellence academically. The Governing Council of the University of Ilorin has approved the appointment of four substantive Directors for four technical and professional units in the University. 

The new Directors are: Dr. Rasheed Adekeye Odunola, Unilorin Health Services; Engr. Abisoye Adesoji Mudasiru, Works Unit; Mr. Kunle Ibrahim Akogun, Directorate of Corporate Affairs; and Dr. Adams Bashir Olajide, Physical Planning Unit.

The new Director of Health Services, Dr. Odunola, was a successful private Medical Practitioner before joining the services of the University of Ilorin in 2011.He was appointed the Ag. Medical Director of the University Health Services in March 2017. He is the first and only non-teaching staff member to sit on the University Governing Council, having been unanimously elected by the Congregation in October 2017.

The new Director of Works, Engr. Abisoye, joined the services of the University in 2011 as Deputy Director. He was Telecommunication Engineer at Murhi International, Lagos; Chief Engineer, Concord Press, Ikeja; and General Manager, Technical Services of The Nation newspaper. He was appointed Ag. Director of Works in August 2017.

The new Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr. Akogun, is a consummate journalist of the print media genre. He is a former Group News Editor, National Assembly Editor and Editorial Board member of the influential THISDAY Newspaper before joining the services of the University of Ilorin in 2012 as Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs.

The new Director of Physical Planning, Dr. Adams, joined the services of the University as Chief Architect in 2008 from the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, where he was an Assistant Director. He was appointed Deputy Director of PPU in 2012.

Department of Mass Communication University of Ilorin, is set to hold her annual Doyin Mahmoud lecture and her magazine launch, with a lecture set to be presented by the publisher of Nigeria's foremost investigative reporting platform, Mr. Dapo Olorunyomi.

The event will also feature the presence of two former Vice Chancellors of University of Ilorin, Professor Is-haq Oloyede and Professor S.O. Amali, who are set to be awarded by the Department.
