Son of the former Chairman of Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences(ICPC), Late Mustapha Akanbi (rtd), Ahmed Mustapha Akanbi, wednesday said the task of All Progressives Congress(APC) in Kwara State to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the next year general election will not be a tea party affairs.

He therefore urged party members and stakeholders of the APC to be more united and focused in order to assist the party to win the elections in the state.

Mustapha, an APC leader and former governorship aspirant of the party in the state, disclosed this in Ilorin yesterday in his lecture delivered at the first summit of APC stakeholders’ forum with the theme: ‘Imperatives of Unity and Party Loyalty Towards Good Governance in Kwara State’.

He said: “We must forget all our differences and come together as one united front in order to assist APC in Kwara State to clinch the governorship position in 2019.”

Akanbi stressed that “members of the party, wherever you may come from, whether from Kwara Central, Kwara North and Kwara South, should shun all forms of acrimony and work as a team so as to help the party record a sound electoral victory during next polls.”

The former aspirant, who said in any contest a winner must emerge, added that “the emergence of Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq as the governorship candidate of APC in the state is a welcome development among the party members and stakeholders and we must all rally round him to win the forthcoming general election in the state.”

He pointed out that “Abdulrasaq possesses all the virtues and qualities that a governorship candidate must have and this would help the party to win the election.”

While appealing to other aspirants to continue to be more loyal to the party and support the candidature of Abdulrasaq for the governorship position of the party, Akanbi stated that the gesture would continue to assist the party to scale through the next year general elections.

He also called the state working committee of the party led by Bashr Omolaja to provide a level playing ground for all party members while party members too on their part should move enmass to their various wards and units to canvass for votes for the party’s candidate.

The Senate has condemned the Federal Government for not paying the subsidy claims by petroleum product marketers despite approval by the National Assembly since July.

At a meeting of stakeholders called by the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream) and held in Abuja on Wednesday, senators took turns to criticise government agencies for allegedly slowing down the process of paying petroleum product marketers what was owed as and when due.

The committee resolved that the Ministry of Finance should within one week call a meeting of other government agencies and the marketers to reconcile subsidy claim figures and discuss ways of fast-tracking the payment of arrears.

The stakeholders are to report back to the committee next week.

The Senate had in July 2018 approved the payment of subsidy claims totalling N348bn to oil marketing companies based on a request by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The approval followed the adoption of an interim report by the committee on the promissory note programme and bond issuance to settle inherited local debts and contractual obligations to petroleum marketers.

While approving that 55 oil marketers be paid verified figures totalling N275,750,415,108, the upper chamber of the National Assembly had asked that 19 marketers “with contentious claims and verified figures” be paid 65 per cent of their claims, amounting to N73,452,639,866, pending further investigation and verification by the committee.

The Chairman of the committee, Senator Kabiru Marafa, in his opening remarks, explained that the meeting was called to know how much the Federal Government had implemented the Senate’s resolution, the situation with the 19 marketers with contentious claims, and the solution to the continued conflict of subsidy figures between the government and oil marketers.

The Director General, Debt Management Office, Mrs Patience Oniha, however, said that while the payments were approved by the Senate in July, the office did not receive communication from the Clerk to the National Assembly until September.

Oniha also stated that the processes through which the payments would be made were detailed in the request made to the Federal Executive Council, which was passed and forwarded to the National Assembly for approval.

Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has condemned the plan by the Federal Government to dispose of some national assets and use the proceeds to fund the 2019 budget.

Atiku,  in a statement by its media office in Abuja on Wednesday, described the plan as irresponsible.

The statement said, “The attention of the Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation has been drawn to a policy statement by the Muhammadu Buhari administration evincing a plan to sell national assets to fund the 2019 budget.

“Our first response would be that this action by the Buhari government has the effect of ridiculing their principal.

“It will be recalled that on Monday the 29th of October, 2018, President Buhari accused past leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party of not building public infrastructure, while delivering the 75th Anniversary Business lecture of the Island Club, Lagos.

“However, some of the assets listed for sale in the policy document of the Buhari Administration, were assets built or established under the PDP administrations that governed Nigeria between 1999 and 2007.

“Some of them were the brainchild of the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar.

“Our question is this: If the PDP did not build infrastructure as alleged by President Muhammadu Buhari, who built these assets that this administration wants to sell to fund their 2019 budget?”

The former Vice President added that as the head of the Economic Management Committee during the Olusegun Obasanjo administration, Atiku supervised the successful policy of privatisation.

He said that its (privatisation) primary goal is not to raise money for short-term stabilisation of what is clearly a fragile fiscal system.

The government’s planned sale of assets,  he said, would cause long-term pains and only provide short-term gains.

He, therefore, warned that it makes no sense to sell public assets simply to fund a ‘business-as-usual’ budget that is essentially 70 per cent recurrent.

He said,  “It is irresponsible to part with valuable assets simply to consume the proceeds (Like selling your family house to take a trip overseas on holiday).

“We knew that such a day would come, which is why Atiku Abubakar has on various occasions made it clear that what is needed at this time is fiscal restructuring to eliminate our addiction to oil revenues and strengthen our internal revenue generating capacity and a restructuring of the budget in favour of capital spending.

“For instance, last month, the PDP Presidential candidate questioned the wisdom behind the Federal Government sharing $322 million Abacha loot to certain Nigerians, only to obtain a $328 million loan from China, allegedly for ICT development.

Ethiopian members of parliament have elected Sahle-Work Zewde as the country's first female president.

Ms Sahle-Work is an experienced diplomat who has now become Africa's only female head of state.

Her election to the ceremonial position comes a week after Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed appointed a cabinet with half the posts taken up by women.

After being sworn in, President Sahle-Work promised to work hard to make gender equality a reality in Ethiopia.

Addressing parliament, she also pledged to promote peace: "I urge you all, to uphold our peace, in the name of a mother, who is the first to suffer from the absence of peace.''

Fighting for women's rights

The new president was keen to make a point about gender equality right from the start, telling MPs that if they thought she was talking too much about women, she had only just begun.

There may now be male-female parity in the new cabinet but elsewhere there is still a long way to go.

Ms Sahle-Work's appointment has been welcomed by Ethiopians on social media with many calling it "historic".

She has been described as Ethiopia's first female head of state of the modern era, with some remembering Empress Zewditu who governed the country in the early part of the 20th Century.

Ms Sahle-Work was voted in after the unexpected resignation of her predecessor, Mulatu Teshome.

The prime minister's chief of staff, Fitsum Arega, tweeted that "in a patriarchal society such as ours, the appointment of a female head of state not only sets the standard for the future but also normalises women as decision-makers in public life".

President Sahle-Work has served as an ambassador for Ethiopia in Senegal and Djibouti. She has also held a number of UN positions, including head of peace-building in the Central African Republic (CAR).

Immediately before becoming president, Ms Sahle-Work was the UN representative at the African Union.

In the Ethiopian constitution, the post of president is ceremonial with the prime minister holding the political power.

The last African female head of state was Mauritian President Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, who resigned in March over an expenses scandal. She denied any wrong doing.

As we were told as kids, money doesn’t grow on trees; and wealth rarely just appears in a person’s life.

Entrepreneurship is the process of creating an idea in order to benefit the society and acquiring wealth to one-self. The right approach can mean a world of difference in business. Part of setting up a long-term plan is knowing where the problem spots are as well as which business ideas. That’s why having a strong group of peers and mentors is so important for leaders: an outside perspective, or someone who has already faced a similar misstep, can mean all the difference between struggling and finding success.

Wealth is the product of man’s capacity to think. It is the different from riches while riches are parts of wealth. Wealth is also as a result of the function of your network. Your network determines your net worth. The quality of value you provide and the quality of your relationship ultimately determines your net worth. To determine your net worth, you need to ask yourself questions like: What solution do I provide? What problems am I solving? The more problems you solve, the wealthier you become. What is the extra thing you do to get financial freedom? Those extra little big is what would make you wealthy.

The world is going global. All thanks to social media. Everyone is becoming proud entrepreneurs. Some are techpreneurs, they make use of technology to benefit our society.
Edupreneurs use their skills to benefit the education sector, socialpreneur, ecopreneur, mediapreneur etc. At this present time, graduates don’t search for jobs anymore, they create one.

The likes of Bayo Lion Adedeji, CEO of Dundun nations, he sells dundun (fried yam) with lots of packaging. Something, the roadside marketer won’t think of, that’s a plus, he is making use of his academics and entrepreneurial skills to create jobs not for himself but for others too. Imagine the number of graduates like him working under him. Imagine his net worth after a year or more.

You want to be like Dundun Nations, Right? That’s a brilliant idea. Firstly, make the intention known, give it some attention, provide the right set of mind i.e. your belief, improve your growth, keep dreaming and realizing it, provide the best service ever, so your competitor won’t have a choice than to bow for you, have the habit of a good entrepreneur, learn to give before taking, if you have the habit of always taking without giving, you aren’t creating wealth. Learn to get tangibles, stop the materialistic lifestyle. Go for assets not liability, find success not faults as a good entrepreneur.

There is also need to increase your financial literacy by reading books on wealth creation by reading books on wealth creation, surf the net for it, play games like monopoly, payday, charge large to widen your horizon.  When the income comes, learn to save – 30%, invest- 20% and spend - 50%, you only get what you need, you don’t allow your wants supersede your needs.

As young minds, it’s advisable, you start to invest, you can invest in monetary bonds, mortgage, treasury bills, shares and even real estate. With the little amount at hand, before you know, it’s a huge sum in total. From your salary, allowance, gifts or part time jobs, you could squeeze something out of it to save and invest in it. Just think it. You can do it.

ROTARACT CLUB OF UNILORIN DIGITAL AWARENESS ON "BREAST CANCER" IN COLLABORATION WITH ROTARACT CLUB OF WORLD BANK, IMO STATE.

Day 2(a) of 3

TYPES OF BREAST CANCER

Breast cancers comes in different forms and types. Knowing the type of breast cancer you've will let medical practitioners know what steps to take to address it. Here are commonly known types of BC.

In situ cancers

Ductal carcinoma in situ(DCIS) also called intraductal carcinoma and Stage 0 breast cancer. DCIS is a non-invasive or pre-invasive breast cancer. This means the cells that line the ducts have changed to cancer cells but they have not spread through the walls of the ducts into the nearby breast tissue.

Because DCIS hasn’t spread into the breast tissue around it, it can’t spread (metastasize) beyond the breast to other parts of the body.

Lobular carcinoma in situ (LCIS) may also be called lobular neoplasia. In this breast change, cells that look like cancer cells are growing in the milk-producing glands of the breast (called the lobules), but they don’t grow through the wall of the lobules.

LCIS is not considered to be cancer, and it typically does not spread beyond the lobule (become invasive breast cancer) if it isn’t treated. But having LCIS does increase your risk of developing an invasive breast cancer in either breast later on, so close follow-up is important.

Invasive (infiltrating) breast cancer

Invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) is the most common type of breast cancer. About 8 of 10 invasive breast cancers are invasive (or infiltrating) ductal carcinomas (IDC).

IDC starts in the cells that line a milk duct in the breast, breaks through the wall of the duct, and grows into the nearby breast tissues. At this point, it may be able to spread (metastasize) to other parts of the body through the lymph system and bloodstream.

Invasive lobular carcinoma (ILC) starts in the milk-producing glands (lobules). Like IDC, it can spread (metastasize) to other parts of the body. About 1  invasive breast cancer in 10  is an ILC. Invasive lobular carcinoma may be harder to detect on physical exam as well as imaging, like mammograms, than invasive ductal carcinoma. And compared to other kinds of invasive carcinoma, about 1 in 5 women with ILC might have cancer in both breasts

ROTARACT CLUB OF UNILORIN DIGITAL AWARENESS ON "BREAST CANCER" IN COLLABORATION WITH ROTARACT CLUB OF WORLD BANK, IMO STATE.

Day 1 of 3

Breast cancer; The silent killer

It is no news that one of the enemies of life and good health is cancer, and not even breasts are spared from this bad sprout in our systems. Breast cancer has become a source of serious concern as it continues to deal mortal blow on women in our society. We'll be discussing Breast Cancer over the next three days, and we hope that you're able to keep up till the end.

What is Breast Cancer?

Breast cancer is the formation of tumours and lumps in the breasts, secondary to excessive proliferation of cells in the breasts. It leads to morphological changes in the breasts and could spread to other parts of the body through metastasis, ultimately leading to death.

Factors responsible for Breast Cancer

=>An history of breast cancer in the family.
=> Genetic mutation
=> Excessive estrogen secretion
=> Obesity. Amongst others.

Can it be prevented?

Yes! In fact, it can be noticed early enough and taken care of before metastasis occur. By a frequent employment of some of these examination methods, one could easily prevent thw growth of Breast Cancer:

1. Palpation for the presence of lumps.
2. Observation of change in structure of the normal breast such as dimpling.

It is therefore adviced that young ladies and grown women check up on themselves regularly,  to prevent breast cancer, and for early diagnosis in other cases.

Stop breast cancer, before it stops you.

Please do note that this is not all the lecture we will be giving. Over the next three days, we'll be discussing other aspects of Breast Cancer. Please do stay with us. Thank you.
