The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ilorin has inducted 17 individuals into the medial profession.
The maiden Induction Ceremony was held at the main auditorium on Wednesday, 17th of October, 2018; 8 years after the academic programme was established in the varsity.
The ceremony was set aside to initiate the Graduating Students into A New Phase of Life, as they became certified veterinary doctors.
The occasion was graced by dignitaries and stakeholders within and outside the university community in persons of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin Prof. Sulyman Age Abdulkareem as the chief host, former Vice Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Prof. Abdulganiy Ambali (OON) as the special guest of honour, JAMB Registrar and former Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Professor Ishaq Oloyede as the distinguished guest of honour, ably represented by Dr.Yusuf Lawal. Also in attendance were the principal officers from the College of Veterinary Surgeons and the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), CEO Amo Farms Nigeria Limited, Dr. Ayoola Oduntan amongst other reputable and renowned practitioners in the profession.
The Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine - Prof. S.O Salami who delivered the welcome address, also gave a brief history of the Faculty in which according to him, kicked off with just 7 academic staff with one office. He further noted that the faculty has now burgeoned to have about 71 academic staff.
He, however, made it known to the gathering that the faculty has gotten its full accreditation, and now also has an approved postgraduate program. He went further by acknowledging the Senate Council, Induction Committee and other members for their efforts in making the august and epoch-making event an huge success.
Furthermore, The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sulayman Age Abdulkareem gave his Speech titled: "Today is Our Day". He expressed appreciation to the helmsmen of the great faculty and congratulated the Inductees, spurring them to be good and worthy ambassadors of the faculty and the varsity in the veterinary world.
In addition to this, the President of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria, ably represented by the Registrar, in person of Dr. J.T. Kantiyok appreciated the parents/guardians of the graduands for investing into the lives of their wards and urged the inductees to be disciplined, focused and committed to whatever they do. He then led the Inductees in taking the Hippocratic oath after which honorary certificates were presented to them.
Afterwards, a lot of congratulatory wishes and goodwill messages were delivered by the Director of University Health Services, Dr. Odunola, stating clearly that both Human Medics, Veterinarians and Pharmacists are the same, as they all aim at promoting health and they are all relevant stakeholders in the healthcare system.
