Facebook and Instagram down

Facebook and Instagram, two of the largest social networks in the world, have both been knocked offline, in what appears to be a major outage. Both services started experiencing issues at around 16:00 BST.

Users in the South of England and East Coast of America appear to be the worst affected, although problems were also reported elsewhere in Europe and the United States.

It is not yet clear what has caused the outages, but it is perhaps no coincidence, given that both social networks are owned by the same company.

"We're aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing Facebook and Instagram," a Facebook spokesperson told Mirror Online.
