Health workers suspend strike

The Joint Health Sector Unions suspended its strike ‘in principle’ following a meeting with the Minister of State for Labour, Prof. Stephen Ocheni on Saturday in Abuja.

The union is expected to hold an emergency National Executive Council meeting to deliberate on agreements reached with the Federal Government with a view to calling off the strike by Wednesday.

Ocheni, who presided over the second conciliation meeting, affirmed that the FG had agreed to resolve the issues that led to the industrial action.

According to him, the meeting agreed among other things that the government needed to carry out a review of the fiscal and governance matters in the health sector.

The minister disclosed that a standing committee comprising the Ministry of Health, unions in the health sector, National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, Ministry of Labour and Employment would be put in place to look at critical issues in the health sector.
