Pochettino furious with Mourinho for ‘compromising’ Eric Dier

Mauricio Pochettino was alarmed to see Eric Dier and Jose Mourinho hugging after Tottenham were beaten by Manchester United last December.

Tottenham lost 1-0 at Old Trafford almost a year ago and Dier and Mourinho were spotted being very friendly with one another in the tunnel after the game.

Pochettino has slammed Mourinho for putting his player in a compromising position after becoming aware the United boss was trying to sign Dier. The Spurs boss revealed how he sat Dier down for four hours to discuss the incident and the links to United.

‘I found out that United have made an approach and the player is being destabilised,’ Pochettino wrote in the Daily Mail.

‘After that game, Mourinho greeted Moussa Sissoko and hugged Dier. They passed by me en route to the dressing rooms, laughing, speaking in Portuguese.

‘Maybe it is a common Mourinho tactic, but he put Eric in a compromising position. You cannot do that after a defeat.

‘Are you friends with Mourinho?’ I asked him. ‘No, but I’ve known him a long time, from my time in Portugal… one of his godsons coached me. He always says hello.’
