The suspended President of Nigerian Union of Engineering Students Association — NUESA, Mr Yussuf Musbaudeen Adeyemi — FOCUS, has been restored as the President of the Faculty by the Students Union Court.
The court in its Judgement stated that the suspension should be treated as null and void, as though it never existed, while ordering the Faculty's SRC to pay a sum of #6, 000 compensation to the President.
The case which was began on the 14th of March, 2018, was instituted to challenge the perceived unconstitutionality of the earlier indefinite suspension meted out on the President. We learnt from reliable sources that while the suit was pending, parties tried to resolve out of court to no avail.
The judgement was however not limited to a reinstatement and payment of compensation, but also included an order for the SRC to write a letter of apology to the President for the suspension.
Lead counsel to the plaintiff, Mr Kalejaye Musa took time to express his joy at the victory. He congratulated his client for being a leader with maturity and dexterity, while praising the court for upholding constitutional supremacy. He also appreciated the efforts of his co-counsels towards the feat.
Counsel for the defendants, Mr Tajudeen Habeeb was however unwilling to react to the court's decision. He stated that he had not seen the full judgement and would not say a thing until he had received it.
