Mag 6.1 🌎Earthquake💢 Strikes South of 🇳🇿New Zealand

Central New Zealand jolted by a short and sharp earthquake. The 6.1-magnitude quake hit about 2.42 pm on Wednesday, 17 kilometres deep and 30km northeast of Seddon.

The quake was felt strongly in Wellington. Train services were briefly impacted, but were back to normal by about 3.05pm, though there would be some minor delays, Metlink said.

No damage has been reported along the Kaikoura coast, where workers are still clearing slips from the 7.8-magnitude earthquake last November.

Authorities were yet to confirm if a power outage in Nelson was caused by the earthquake.
