🎥Simran
🎬Director: Hansal Mehta
Simran (Kangana) plays a housekeeper in the big ol’ 🇺🇸USA… who happens to suffer from Kleptomania - a psychological disorder that compels her to steal things.
Coupled with an unhealthy affinity for 🍺alcohol & gambling, Simran paints the country red with her antics👻, cop-car🚓 chases & what not. A fruitful romance in a character such as Simran is 💔doubtful, but that’s not what Kangana is about. Keep in mind that the actress is on a mission👊 to redefine what it means to be a woman in 🇮🇳India. And though we might question her choice for Simran’s characteristics, it’s possible that the move from Kangana to Simran is very intentional.
Effectively, Simran/Kangana’s message to our male-dominated 🌐world is ‘f-off boys, I’m gonna’ do things my way!’. Like her or not, Simran is probably your best bet for the next couple of weeks.
🎥Rabbi
🎬Director: Rahat Kazmi
Rabbi (Furqan Merchant) comes from a quaint 🏘town & wants to be a Rockstar🎸, much to the fear & derision of his conservative dad (Raghubir Yadav) who thinks that music will make Rabbi shun his ☪faith.
This 🎥movie is positively uplifting… if you take away all the drama in the middle. The location of the shoot often times is breath-taking & the emotions are genuine even if the acting isn’t on par.
🎥Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi
🎬Director: Sanjay Chhel
Tee-totalling shopkeeper Hasmukh Patel (Paresh Rawal), tries to evict his new neighbours🔊: the ‘wild’ Guggi Tandon (Rishi Kapoor). Unfortunately, Tandon’s son Monty (Vir Das) falls for Patel's daughter Pooja (Payal Ghosh).
Don’t say you haven’t heard that story before. Yes, two⭐⭐ stars it is… unless you’re in a nostalgic💭 mood with the Rawal & Rishi duo.
🎥Lucknow Central
🎬Director: Ranjit Tiwari
Kishen Mohan Girhotra (Farhan Akhtar) is accused of murder🔪 & finds himself in Lucknow Central Kail, awaiting death penalty. Thus, a plan is made to escape… obviously.
Insufficient story-line aside, the 🎥movie boasts of a unique portrayal of the Indian prison⛓ setting, it has decent acting, & ‘reeks’ of plot. Highly recommended, definitely not a waste of time.
🎥B.A. PASS 2
🎬Director: Shadab Khan
Bhopal girl, Neha’s (Kritika) parents show her a 💍marriage proposal with an NRI & now she must move to 🌃Mumbai. Unready for 💍marriage, she instead tries to prove that she is better off alone.
B.A. Pass 2 is not an erotic sequel, & if you thought it made up for the lack of sleaze with a good story line, you thought wrong. The acting is substandard, & plot is highly flawed, to say the least. Don’t watch this unless you know the actor/director & want to support💵 them.
🎥American Assassin
🎬Director: Michael Cuesta
CIA superagent Mitch Rapp (Dylan) loses his girlfriend to terrorists, & becomes a super-nothing📉. He’s then put on a programme to bring him up to mark where he learns more kick-ass CIA stuff with Stan Hurley (Michael Keaton) & sets out to get his vengeance… & maybe get to blow some ☢nukes.
Although Dylan O'Brien is a promising actor, the movie’s start is so darn cliché! But the pace picks up once Keaton’s on the scene, thankfully. Yes, this is your standard action movie, & not so interesting plot but it’s damn refreshing to see Keaton back on the scene with a decent punchy role.
