Unilorin hosts 3rd National Youth Games as games come to an end


University of Ilorin host third National Youth Games, as more than 22 states participate.

The National Youth Games, started on 7th September and is set to end on 17th September, 2017.

University of Ilorin was confirmed host for the events, by the Federal Ministry for Youth and Sport, who said the institution will be hosting the event for the second time conservatively.

According to a sportsman representing Akwa Ibom State in karate, he said, "The organisers have made it possible for us to be safe and secure", as he commends the quality of event collectively.

He told UCJ Unilorin, that he hopes to win a medal for his state in the karate finals.

An hockey player representing Kaduna State, Isaac Patrick, expressed his happiness on their victory in the game, stating that they won the gold metal in hockey game.

Speaking with UCJ Unilorin, Udeme, the para-athletic coach for Akwa Ibom expressed his joy at the conduct of the event, stating that, it gives hope to the 'disabled'.

He said, paying them salaries make sport a source of income to them as they do not have equal competitive opportunity in the labour market.

A Cricketer from Edo State, Arinze, said, " The game is good and unique, you need confidence and the team to win the game."

He expressed dissatisfaction, on how they won the silver medal in cricket, complaining that Team Kaduna fielded overage players who are national team players.

He enthused that, he is happy the National Youth Games, is encouraging everyone including the 'disabled' and giving everyone a chance to participate.

He said, he hopes the government continues such activity, as his team prepare for the under-19 category.

Arinze expressed his fulfillment and thanks to God as games set to end in few days. He appreciated their Chairman for believing in the team, when the government couldn't sponsor them.

According to our correspondent, many participants expressed their satisfaction at the event so far, appreciating the school and the government for giving the required support.
