Nigeria's Paul Kehinde Oluwafemiayo on Friday night broke the men's -65kg world record at the World Para Powerlifting Championships in Mexico.

Kehinde, who had set the world record of 220kg in the event at the Rio 2016 Paralympics, broke his own record in the third attempt after cleanly lifting 220.5kg.

China's Liu Lei won silver with a 193kg lift while Algeria won their first medal at the worlds as Bettir Hocine won bronze with a lift of 188kg.

Oluwafemiayo won the first gold while Lucy Ejike won the second gold in the women's +61kg and former world record holder Yakubu Adesokan and Ndidi Nwosu each won bronze in the men's +49kg and women's +73kg.
