China censor deleting online tributes to Nobel laureate Liu Xiaobo

China censor deleting online tributes to Nobel laureate Liu Xiaobohina’s censors have been rushing to delete any mention, tribute to or reference online about the death of Liu Xiaobo, the Nobel laureate, who died of cancer in custody.

After news of Mr Liu’s death in the northeast Chinese city of Shenyang broke, hundreds of thousands, of Chinese attempted to post tributes online to the writer, who was jailed in 2009 for drafting a petition calling for democracy.

Censors moved quickly to rub out everything from mentions of his name, cartoon drawings of him and even simple photographs of candles, often posted as tributes to the dead.
