UNILORIN: Basic Medical Sciences, To Begin Scholarship Scheme For Medical Students


Basic Medical Sciences, set to begin scholarship scheme for her students, in University of Ilorin

The scheme is set to enable, financial availability, accessibility and sufficiency such as access to tuition fee and other peripheral-stipends, that are important to students.

Mr Fatoye Oluwasegun John, said, "we are not the leaders of tomorrow but the leaders currently needed".

He enthused, and uncovered the need to cement a foundation for youth if truly they are leaders of tomorrow .

He explained further that, the purpose of the scheme is to provide financial benefit for students.

Also in a story he narrated,  he reported how a student withdrew, because he was unable to renew his tuition fee. 

He asserted, that by next session the scheme would be fully launched, so that students of anatomy and physiology can have access to scholarship as there are few or no opportunities opened for them In Nigeria.

He proposed that, certain criteria would be met for Interested applicants as they would go through proper scrutiny to ensure that such financial assistance is benefited by those who needs it the most .

The scheme also aimed at encourage student entrepreneurs through its website, which will serve as an avenue where they can advertise businesses,  trades,and handwork of different type.

Doctor Olajide, an alumnus of the BMS, said that, 'what is required in life is to be dedicated as medical doctors who are dedicated do not go far'.

He uncovered how  impressed he is with the development and therefore promised not only to support but also to charge other alumni to invest into the scheme. 

He advised that, certain criteria should be met before students can be qualified for the benefit, stating that a student should make minimum of 3.5 CGPA, in order to apply for a second time instead of the proposed CGPA of 2.5 by the organisation for first application.

This,  he said is necessary in order for the scheme not to be taken for granted.  He further advised that students whose welfare is well catered for should not apply so as not to hinder the opportunity of other student.

The seminar hosted people of high personalities of the faculty among which are: Professor Oyeyinka, a representative of the Dean,  Dr. Olajide, an alumni of the BMS and Aderemi temidayo, the US vice president of CCHS,  who contributed significantly to the program. 

Eligibility for applications

👉 Applicant must be a BMS student
👉 Must have acquired cpga of 2.5 in previous session
👉 Applicant must be an independent as the Intention is not to award scholars but to make available finance
👉 Only students of 200, 300 and 400 level are eligible for application.
👉 International students are also eligible.
