The Tijaniyyah Muslim students association of Nigeria, university of Ilorin chapter, has performed her annual tradition of celebrating Prophet Muhammad's birthday at the University auditorium.
The Mawlid themed; "Islam, an antidote to societal misconduct," witnessed the presence of eminent personalities in the University Muslim community, including the chairman and the chief Imam of the University central mosque, Professor A.G.A.S Oladosu.
Professor Oladosu, was represented by professor Ashir Abdulsalam.
Prof. Ashir Abdulsalam, in his remark mentioned that even though the celebration of the prophet's birthday is a controversial issue, there is no harm doing it on a minimal level as the prophet himself acknowledged his birthday by observing fasts on Mondays, he then declared the event opened.
Prof. B.L Adeleke, the chairman of the occasion, agreed with Prof. Abdulsalam on his verdict on the prophet's birthday.
Adeleke congratulated everyone present for making it to the venue. He further enjoyed everyone to learn from the wealth of spirituality the guest lecturers will be sharing.
He continued by encouraging members of unilorin Muslim community to live harmoniously with fellow Muslims and people of other faiths alike.
The guest lecturers, Sheikh Ibraheem Niyass Yusuf Lokoja, from Lokoja and Dr. Uthman Idrees Kankawi from department of Arabic, faculty of Arts, UNILORIN, spoke extensively on the role of Islam and Muslim in eradication of corruption in our society.
Other institutions present at the occasion include, students from Minaret school, TIMSAN members from FUNAAB, LAUTECH, KWASU, YABATECH, COED Ilorin, Osun state Polytechnic, Alhikmah University, Adeyemi college of education, Tijaniyyah youth Osogbo and other individuals.
