Dignitaries Storm Unilorin, for SU Leadership Summit

University of Ilorin, Students Union, held her leadership summit on 8th, July, 2017, at the University auditorium.

The summit was held, in honour of Sen. Rafiu Ibrahim, representing Kwara South constituency.

At exactly 12:53pm, Mr. Gbenga Awogbenle welcomed all to the S.U 5th Edition, Leadership summit & journal Launch, and announced the theme of the summit. Which was tagged; CONSTRUCTIVE UNIONISM: An imperative for visionary leadership. After which he went on to introduce, guests present at the event.

Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin Prof. Abdul Ganiyu Ambali OON, gave his welcome address in his speech titled; ‘Tremendous Progress’, where he commended the effort of the SU leadership, for organizing such programme.

In his words, he stated that, “it is leadership that makes or mars any society and the state of Africa today is a reflection of the state of its leadership. This means that if we want to get it right as Nigerians and Africans, we must be commited to raising a generation of leaders that will make positive change possible in the society through visionary leadership.”

After the Vice-Chancellor remark, the Students Union President, Mr. Shobowale Lukman, read citation of the guest speaker, Mr Fela Durotoye, before he was called to the podium to give his lecture.

Mr Fela Durotoye in his speech titled; "Constructive Unionism, an imperative world for development", hailed, the constructive developmental structure of University Students Union, and rank it as the best in the country.

Durotoye said, “individual success in the midst of collective failure will always lead to collective failure”, as he urged all individuals, to contribute their quota to development, while metaphorically speaking on a sinking boat.

The CEO of Visible Impact, expressed his optimism and undying hope to the future of Nigeria with the stability of academic programs in University of Ilorin.

He said, “This is the generation that will bring the reality of the Nigerian ability", stating that the future of Nigeria is not ahead of us, the future of Nigeria is inside us.

He however, advised students to know, support, encourage, empower and elect the best candidates that has the ability and capacity to steer the wheel of its leadership without violence and peaceful agitation and negotiation with the school authority.

He opined that, governance is divided into two, one is when you take politics out of government and the second thing is when we put democracy into our political parties.

The program proceeded, by the launch of Students Union journal, ‘The Erudite’.

The summit ended, with presentation of awards and taking of photographs.
