AMCOS Holds 6th Doyin Mahmoud Lecture And Launching of The Lens Magazine

Mass Communication Department, University of Ilorin, held her annual Doyin Mahmoud lecture, on 8th July, 2017.

The annual program is organise yearly in remembrance of pioneer Head of the Department, (Late). Doyin Mahmoud, with this year marking the 6th edition.

The guest speaker, Mr. Mudashir Adebayo Atoyebi in his lecture titled, "Essence of Digitisation", said, the transmission of radio programs, will go digital before the end of next decade, through Digital Audio Broadcast (DAB).

He further enthused that, the media landscape must change with technological development and must do so ethically.

He said, "the compression of video, audio and text and 0 and 1 corresponding with "on and off" electrical impulses, broadcasting will be made easy".

He accounted, that variant of digital broadcast, with the prominent being Standard Definition Television (SDTV), has helped in improving broadcast media landscape.

The veteran Journalist, enthused that, change in digital value, improvement in reception quality and value added content are benefits of digitization.

In his closing remark, he called for censorship and regulation, as the maintenance for this innovation, that must be properly taken care of, if we must enjoy the benefits of digitization.

Representing Mallam Olaolu Ali, Mallam Aliyu Badmus, urged media to report progress from other sectors of the economy, while urging budding Journalist to surpass their predecessor.

President of the Association, Comrade Soliu Abdulfatai, charged growing journalists to follow the footsteps of the late veteran Journalist, Late. Doyin Mahmoud.

The event ended with the launching of The Lens annual Magazine, and the presentation of awards to the awardee, as well as medals to participants for the Association's week programs.
