Prof. Damty Bows Out as AEMTS President

The Association of Educational Media and Technology Students (AEMTS), University of Ilorin, held its handover ceremony which ushered in a new administrative dispensation for the 2017/2018 academic session.

The event took place yesterday 14th August, 2017 at the Seminar Room of the department. It had in attendance notable personalities from the department, the faculty of Education, among others.

The AEMTS staff adviser, Dr. C.O. Olumorin, said he would give his remark after the swearing in proper. To that end, he officially declared the event open.

Sequel to this, the immediate past president, Com. Ojo Isaac Damilare (Prof. Damty), delivered his valedictory speech in which he appreciated the AEMTS staff advisers, Dr C.O. Olumorin and Dr. Mrs. O.O. Ogunlade, the President of the Union of Campus Journalists, Unilorin chapter, Osuji Chima Francis. He also extended his gratitude to his colleagues called the Undaunted Achievers' Team, and the students of the department of Educational Technology, Unilorin.

Prof. Damty confessed to the onerous task that confronted him at the inception of his administration but concluded that the journey was worth the while. "It has been a very grueling journey but worth it," he said.

He seized the opportunity to give highlights of the programs his administration organized which included: Orientation program held on 15th December, 2016;
First seminar for educators in the Ilorin metropolis, which attracted a total of 148 participants to include 53 teachers representing 48 schools, 90 prospective students, and 5 members of staff of the department; Google digital skills training attended by 1065 participants; First dinner and awards night, to mention but a few.

Prof. Damty advised the new administration to take advantage of a myriad of programs available other than the traditional orientation program. He went further to encourage AEMTS students to be good ambassadors of the department anywhere they find themselves.

In his words, "there are a myriad of programs the association can undertake, it's not just about orientation program. I implore you all to be good ambassadors of AEMTS anywhere you find yourselves."

At this juncture, the departmental Jurist, Ahmed Abashuta, officially dissolved the immediate past administration. Consequently, members of the new adminstration were duly inaugurated. The AEMTS staff adviser, Dr. C.O. Olumorin, conducted the transfer of paraphernalia of office to members of the new adminstration.

In his inaugural speech, the new president, Com. Adekunle Quadri, appreciated out-gone president for his exploits in lifting the image of the department to enviable heights. He assured AEMT students of his commitment to moving the association to greater heights.

It was at this point the staff adviser, Dr. Olumorin, decided to give his remark. He commended the out-gone administration led by Prof. Damty, for working their talk, and being proactive at all times. He described the Damty-led executives as a people of action of which special thanks was given to the out-gone President, Com. Ojo Isaac Damilare (Prof. Damty), for his visionary leadership and humanitarian service.

He also admonished the new administration to be honest in discharging their duties especially when it comes to public fund.

In his words, "when you have people's money in your custody, spend it for what it's meant for. The people's money in your custody must be spent wisely so that when you people finish your adminstration, we would be able to say good things about you."

The second staff adviser, Dr. Mrs. O.O. Ogunlade, also had some words of admonition for the new administration. "For a departmental president to have achieved so much, it means those coming after him should take a step further in order to achieve," she said.

She went further to implore the new administration to consult regularly before taking major decisions. In her words, "when you listen to the voice of elders, you don't know where you'll be tomorrow."

She informed that the pioneer president of the department is currently a lecturer in the department. That, if he had had a questionable character during his tenure as AEMTS president, he wouldn't have been considered by the department to be a lecturer.

On a final note, she admonished the new president, not to underrate other members of his cabinet, and the need for them to work together.

Another don of the department, Dr Amosa, gave the closing remark. He advised the new administration to carry students of Computer Science Education  in the department along.

The new PRO gave the closing prayer, and the event came to a close at 3:25pm.
