SESA Stages Interactive Session for Fresh Students

In a bid to sensitize her fresh students on better ways of attaining success as undergraduates, the Science Education Students' Association (SESA) of the faculty of Education staged an interactive session on Wednesday, 10th May, 2017 at the New Education Lecture Theatre (NELT)

The session which started in the afternoon, was graced by lecturers of the department, among which are Professor I.O. Abimbola and Dr (Mrs) M.A. Ahmed, who doubles as the HoD of the department. Students were sensitized on how to balance academics with other facets of life and better ways of exploring the freedom they are having now that they are away from their various homes.

Dr. (Mrs) M.A Lawal charged the students to engage in regular revision of lecture notes, maintain good relationship with lecturers, and be prayerful. In her words, she said, "after every lectures, go home and revise what you've been taught. Also, have good relationship with your lecturers, friends and colleagues in the department, faculty, and the university at large so if you encounter any problem, you can be sure it will be attended to, and most importantly, be prayerful"

Professor I.O. Abimbola in his own words, focused on some students who initially, didn't want to study courses in education. He said, "Teachers will be a great remark in the future and teaching profession will continue to get better. We have products of this faculty who are doing far better than their colleagues as lecturers, bankers, among other professions. We cannot force you to teach but we'll equip you with the necessary skills needed in any other field you'll eventually venture into."

Also, on the issue of freedom in the university, he said, " Freedom in the university is what you have never experienced before. Please use it judiciously because you are accountable for yourselves as well as your parents."

The department of Science Education is one of the departments in the Faculty of Education with different courses of study which are: Agricultural science education, Biology education, Chemistry education, Mathematics education and Physics education.
