SU Senate Council to Akeukanwo: "Your Petition Against MC Peperempe Cant Be Treated on Technical Grounds"
The Student Union Senate Council during its 7th Ordinary Sitting held Saturday 6th May, 2017 has struck out the petition of Mr. Akeukanwo Sulaiman in his call for the suspension of the SU Social Secretary, MC Peperempe, for his gross lateness to the just concluded SU Officials Media Chat.
The House premised its decision on technical grounds in that the petitioner failed to meet the requirement of the law in matters that pertain to petition writing. According to the Senate Council, by Section 11( C ) (I) under the Standing Orders of the SU Constitution, a petitioner is required to clearly state in the closing prayer, an affirmative action mandating the House to act accordingly provided the petition is not devoid of merit.
The spokesman of the SU Senate Council, Senator Sanni Alausa, reiterated this position in a phone call put forward to him by UCJ UNILORIN. Having furnished UCJ UNILORIN with the relevant provision of the SU Constitution to the subject matter, he stated that what Mr. Akeukanwo captured in his closing prayer was a summary of his allegation, not a precise request for an affirmative action to be taken by the House in that regard.
Reacting to this development, the petitioner, Mr. Akeukanwo Sulaiman (The Pen), stated that the SU Senate Council is a stooge and lacks the political will to take up disciplinary action against the SU Social Secretary. In his words: "The house is a stooge as a whole, sir. I dont think the house is ready to suspend anyone."
Having being quizzed as to the next step he is likely to take, he says: "Lets wait till next sitting, sir!"
It would be recalled that the SU Social Secretary, MC Peperempe, was absent (for the most part) during the SU Officials Media Chat held Wednesday 3rd May, 2017 at the Lecture Theatre I. He however showed up at tail end of the auspicious occasion.
As to the reason for his lateness, Mr. Peperempe said his schedule was very tight on the said day. That he was busy running a sports commentary at the Maracana Stadium (a program of the Student Union), and had to make it to his faculty Talent Hunt show afterwards.
In addition, UCJ UNILORIN gathered that Mr. Peperempe was among the planners of M'Kido Concert that was held same day with the SU media chat.
In an exclusive interview with UCJ UNILORIN, the producer of the concert, Mr. Kenneth Wright, confirmed that Mr. Peperempe was physically present at the concert and that he spent ample time there.
