Real Madrid suffer worst Champions League defeat in four years

They had arrived at Wembley with high hopes of asserting their dominance in Group H, but Real Madrid departed London following their worst performance in the Champions League in four years, losing 3-1 to Tottenham Hotspur.

It was a performance which, in many ways, was reminiscent of their 4-1 capitulation against Borussia Dortmund back in 2013, and one which leaves the club ob the brink of a crisis.

The dressing room in the aftermath of the loss was ostensibly eerie; there were long faces, tense moments, with coach Zinedine Zidane seemingly the only one looking calm from the outset.

Meanwhile, the flight back was largely silent with Zidane and his technical staff taking the time out to analyse the match in a bid to find answers as to how they were beaten so comprehensively by a Tottenham side who look like genuine contenders to finish top of the group.

However, the Frenchman remains confident in the team and his players who have won two consecutive European titles and has also told president Florentino Perez and the club's executives that he does not plan on changing the side's tactics and his management of the group.
